The official definition of a video game is "an electronic game that involves interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device". The word video originally meant a raster display device (A screen projecting a rectangular grid of pixels, or points of color.) The term now applies to any type of display device. The electronic systems that are used to play the video games are called platforms. Traditionally these platforms were stand alone arcade games but now include computer games, hand held games and different consoles.

Video games are divided into genres or types of games. The genres are based on the type of gameplay interaction and not the subject of the games (like movies.) In this course you will learn the history of game design, the mechanics of game design and you will also make several games using tutorials. Your final project will be a game of your own design.
